Normally, there are only two categories of antique pianos. These categories of pianos which people prefer are upright antique piano and antique grand piano. But, generally people prefer antique grand piano because of its awesome sound.

Antique grand pianos have a much bigger frame and the strings are place horizontally. The strings of the grand piano extend from the keyboard. The antique grand piano is a much larger instrument compared to its counterparts. It needs an ideal setting with a spacious room to place it.

The ceilings of the place should be high enough for proper resonance and sound effects. Antique grand piano comes into numerous sizes and shape. There are numerous companies in the market which produces different kinds of grand pianos according to needs.

Mostly there are three types of grand piano models which people prefer to have. The three types of piano are concert grand piano, parlor grand piano and the baby grand piano. The sizes of the these three grand pianos varies from 2.2 m to 3 m long for concert grand, 1.7 to 2.2 m for parlor grand and less than 1.7 for baby grand. Though the width of the baby grand can be same as parlor grand but the height is kept short.

It is also believed that the bigger the piano the better it is because bigger pianos has longer strings that creates better sound compared to its small counterparts. The inharmonicity depends upon the size of a piano. It is the degree through which the overtones are departed from the multiple fundamental frequencies.

The baby piano has short, thick and stiff strings and also has additional inhormonicity. The concert grand piano which falls into the antique grand piano has much longer strings that vibrate much longer and gives good acoustic sound. The strings of the baby grand piano are shorter that means it does not give a truer overtones. Piano tuning also plays an important role to produce good music and sound. The tuning depends upon the equal temperament which directly relates the standard pitch.

Generally the antique grand piano is used for public concerts and the pianos that are small in size are used for private purpose. Though the cost of the antique grand piano is too high but this musical instrument is worth buying because of its awesome sound output and a perfect musical system for professional players.
